Commercial licensing
SMILE stays free for open-source collaboration, personal learning, and academic research. A commercial license is the standard form for proprietary products, production serving, and commercial use of Agent Studio. Each agreement below becomes binding when an order form names that version. Fees, quantities, and support tiers are set on the order form.
Each agreement includes an intellectual-property indemnity for copyright and issued-patent claims. That indemnity is capped at the fees paid in the twelve months before the claim.
SMILE Core Engine
Core Engine (base, core, nlp, deep, plot, kotlin, and related modules) is dual-licensed under GPLv3 and this commercial form.
- Perpetual right to embed, modify, and distribute Core Engine in object code inside your own applications, without the GPLv3 source-disclosure obligations.
- Annual maintenance covers updates, support, and critical and high CVE windows. If maintenance lapses, the right to keep shipping what was already licensed continues.

SMILE Serve Engine
SMILE Serve Engine is dual-licensed under AGPLv3 and a commercial enterprise runtime license. The customer installs and operates it. The license makes no uptime commitment.
- Annual subscription, renewing unless either party gives 60 days' notice. Production use does not carry the AGPLv3 network source-offer obligation.
- After expiry, production use stops, with 90 days to migrate. High-availability clustering, zero-GC execution, and other enterprise capabilities are licensed only under this agreement.

SMILE Agent Studio
SMILE Agent Studio is offered under the Business Source License 1.1 for non-commercial and non-production use, and under this commercial form for business use.
- Annual per-seat subscription for commercial production use. A hosted or embedded offering is included only when the order form says so.
- Free personal, academic, and evaluation use under the BSL continues. Each version converts to AGPLv3 four years after its release. Model packages you export remain yours.
